Memunatu

Memunatu is 18 years old from Kalamba in Port Loko District of Sierra Leone.  She grew up at Gluster and attained her primary education in one of the community schools, before moving on to Government Model Secondary School.

She sadly lost her father when she was just five months old and was raised by her mother and stepfather.  They lived a happy family life until her mother fell ill last year while Memunatu was preparing to take her Basic Education Certificate Exams (BECE).  She left education to take care of her.

With no support Memunatu was left with little choice but to engage in a relationship with a man who could financially help her meet the medical costs for her sick mother.  She fell pregnant at just 17 years old.

Memunatu heard about the Aberdeen Women’s Centre Hospital, that they cared for women and girls just like her and she came to see us.  Memunatu attended our Monday and Wednesday Dream Girl classes and in April of last year delivered TWINS, a boy and a girl.

During her antenatal and postnatal lessons, Memunatu has worked hard and is enjoying taking part in the courses offered at our hostel.
