Aminata

Aminata is 26 years old and lives in Bumbe alone with her mother. At the age of 15, she had her first pregnancy – a tough pregnancy, that resulted in a stillbirth. At age 24, she had her second pregnancy. After almost 5 days in labour at her home, they brought her to the traditional birth attendants, who forced the labour. To Aminatas complete sorrow, she experienced her second stillbirth the prolonged labour resulted in a vesicovaginal fistula.

After the leaking started, her husband abandoned her, and she was sent to live with her mother. She suffered from fistula for 9 months, which brought her shame, sorrow and the loss of her dignity.

Her brother found out about AWC, by some locals around town and immediately brought her to the Centre. After a month at AWC, she finally got a vesicovaginal fistula repair surgery on the 1st of May 2017- and is now dry and ready to go back. With the help of the professional and incredible staff at AWC, Aminata has restored and regained her dignity, and she is looking forward to returning to her village as a stronger woman.
