Ami

Ami is 16 years old, and lives in Waterloo with her disabled husband, Andrew. She heard about Aberdeen Women’s Centre (AWC) during a local outreach, led by the ANC staff at AWC. The antenatal care nurses (ANC) at the Centre, does community mappings to identify key resource-poor neighborhoods in Freetown. It’s a priority to reach out to these communities to ensure that AWC provides free care and treatments, for those who can’t afford other ANC services.

Ami suffers from severe Kyphosis, which has made her pregnancy both painful and hard. She has gone through it with a strong and positive mind, and finally on May 17th at 9.12 am she gave birth to a beautiful girl, via a successful caesarean section, performed by our talented doctors at AWC. Because of her condition, she will remain at the centre for monitoring to ensure she is stable and prepared to return home. She is a protective, loving and strong mother, so there is no doubt that she will be released very soon.

Ami and her husband are incredibly proud and filled with love for their daughter and each other, and they’re looking forward to bringing her home. With Amis condition, it would’ve been tough and challenging to give birth at home. Andrew is a hard worker, but as an amputee with a missing leg, work is limited especially in the current economy. Ami and Andrew are therefore incredibly thankful to the Centre’s staff, and they say, that they wouldn’t have made it without the free care that is provided at Aberdeen Women’s Centre.
